November 18, 2009 6pm The Sonoma Valley Coalition to Prevent Underage Drinking will present the completed draft of the Social Host Liability and Prohibition of Underage Drinking to the Sonoma City Council. The meeting will be held at 177 First St. West, Sonoma CA
The Coalition is encouraging community members to come and show their support for the SHO. There will be a community comment portion of the meeting and this is an excellent opportunity for community members have their voices heard.
Additionally, this City Council meeting will also be discussing the appeal of the Type 21 Liquor License submitted by Plaza Liquors. Plaza Liquors had their liquor license revoked in December 2008 for multiple sales to minors. While The Coalition supports the success of local businesses and encourages Sonoma to “Buy Sonoma” we also cannot in conscious support a business with a history of selling alcohol to underage people. We encourage citizens to attend and speak on this matter as well.
We look forward to seeing each of you. Thank you for your constant support of our Valley Youth.

I’m a Sonoma High student and the truth is that we high schoolers do not get alcohol from Plaza Liquors. There are a few stores in the valley that are easier then others to buy at illegally and Plaza Liquors is not one of them.
The few times I have been in the store I was actually offended by the cashiers treatment of me because of my age and his assumption that I was trying to obtain alcohol. My friends and I were very surprised to learn that they had been busted for selling to minors because of their reputation around the high school party-goers.
I have no ulterior motive, just want to offer a piece of teenage insight.
Thank you for your insight on this topic and your thoughtful response.
We spoke with the new owners of Plaza Liquors and we look forward to working with them to help with Responsible Beverage Service Training and any other support we can give them that will help them in being a successful business.
